Privacy Policy for DuetScore

DuetScore ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how your information is handled when you use the DuetScore mobile and desktop applications, as well as our website.

1. Information We Collect

While DuetScore started as a purely local app, we now offer cloud-based features that require us to collect certain information:

• Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address, username, and authentication data (such as Google or Apple identifiers if you use social login, or a securely hashed password). We may also store your display name and profile avatar.
• Device & Usage Data: We collect push notification tokens (APNs/FCM) strictly to send you room invitations and collaboration updates. We also collect automated crash reports (which may include OS version and diagnostic backtraces) to help us fix bugs and improve performance.
• Communications: If you join our waitlist or use our Contact Us form, we store your email address and the contents of your message so we can respond to you.

2. Document Storage & Collaboration

Your PDF documents, sheet music annotations, drawings, and spatial audio notes remain yours. During live collaboration sessions, edits (CRDT vectors) are transmitted in real-time over encrypted WebSockets to keep participants in sync. For rooms hosted on our servers, we store the encrypted document state temporarily to allow participants to join asynchronously, but we do not use your private document contents for any other purpose.

3. Microphone Access

DuetScore requests microphone access solely to allow you to record spatial voice and audio notes directly onto your documents upon explicit user action.

4. Camera Access & Facial Gesture Navigation (Automatic Scrolling)

DuetScore requests camera access solely to enable optional hands-free automatic scrolling and page turning via facial gestures (such as bilateral blinks and lip movements) so musicians can navigate sheet music without taking their hands off their instruments:

• Local, In-Memory Processing: Camera video frames and facial landmarks (such as blendshapes and eye aspect ratios) are processed exclusively in real-time on your local device in volatile memory (RAM).
• Zero Video or Biometric Storage: Video streams and camera frames are never recorded, saved to disk, or sent across the network. We do not perform facial identification, biometric profiling, or facial template storage; landmark metrics are discarded immediately after frame analysis.
• Opt-In and Disabled by Default: Camera capture and facial gesture detection are always disabled by default upon application launch. Hardware access only engages when explicitly turned on during an active document session and ceases immediately when turned off, paused, or when exiting the score.
• Peer Privacy: During collaborative room sessions, facial gesture recognition remains completely local and invisible to other participants. No camera indicators, gesture states, or facial metrics are transmitted to peers or stored in document history.

5. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We only share information with trusted third-party service providers (such as our cloud hosting providers) strictly for the purpose of operating and securing the DuetScore service.

6. Data Retention & Deletion

You may request to delete your account at any time. Upon deletion, your account credentials and device push tokens will be permanently removed from our active databases.

7. Copyright and Content Liability

DuetScore provides a tool for annotating and collaborating on documents. We do not monitor, review, or control the contents of the files you choose to upload or share in collaborative rooms. You are solely responsible for ensuring that you have the appropriate legal rights or licenses to use and share any sheet music, PDFs, or other documents. DuetScore is not liable for any copyright infringement, unauthorized sharing of protected materials, or other misuse of the platform by our users.
